Stellar appoints chief technology officer

Stellar Consulting Group has appointed Chris du Toit to the newly created role of Chief Technology Officer.

Chris joined the business intelligence consultancy in 2009 as a data warehouse architect and developer and has most recently been a lead consultant.

Nicholas Glanfield, general manager of Stellar, says the CTO will oversee technical excellence, productise the firm’s intellectual property, and exploit opportunities for technology-led ventures.

The CTO will also be responsible for maintaining technology partnerships and establishing new ones. As an independent BI consultancy, Stellar already partners with a range of leading technology vendors including Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, SAS and Tibco.

Stellar has been on an aggressive growth trajectory for the past couple of years, Nicholas says.

“Last year, the executive team identified innovation as a key driver for growth, and committed to driving innovation, as a priority, in all aspects of our business. Appointing Chris as our first CTO is the first major step in responding to the innovation challenge.”

Following a BSc Computer Science degree from the University of Pretoria, Chris is now entering his 15th year in the BI industry. He says the promotion to CTO is a tremendous opportunity to guide Stellar’s customers and staff in getting the most out of the technologies available.

“The BI and DW community is currently very good at exposing accurate and reliable information to the right people at the right time,” he says. “We’ll be complementing those skills with new and exciting approaches to fundamentally change how businesses get the most value from their information. Stellar’s combination of talented people, vendor partnerships and industry relations provides an ideal platform to take on this challenge.”
