Video case study: SAB Miller’s big data challenge

beer

Summer holidays seem like an appropriate time to think about beer – and this video case study is enough to make us thirsty!

Until it was acquired in 2016, UK-based SAB Miller was the world’s second-largest brewer, operating in 80 countries and selling more than 300 brands, including such well-known labels as Fosters, Miller and Peroni.

SAB Miller adopted the Domo business cloud to pull more than 200 million rows of data, updated daily from 800 data feeds, into a single unified global solution.

“One of the things that we decided quite early on was that we have to create a global, standardised system into which all of our digital assets can be plugged, which enables sharing, learning against common standards and common KPIs,” explained Charlie Hiscocks, Director for Integrated Activation Capability at SAB Miller.

“The change is fairly seismic,” said Tom Brady, Head of Digital Enablement. “It is like being in a room with no lights on, then turning the light on.”

Domo helped SAB Miller move from what Brady characterised as “slightly haphazard” monitoring of its products’ performance, to an era of greater accountability and huge savings in time for the company’s decision makers.

Maybe that’s part of the reason SAB Miller was such an attractive takeover target for the world’s largest brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev.
