New AWS director predicts continuing growth in Asia-Pacific

Ed Lenta, Amazon Web Services

By Chris du Toit, Chief Technology Officer at Stellar

Last week I had the pleasure of having dinner in Auckland with Ed Lenta, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, of Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Ed (pictured above) is no stranger to New Zealand, having served as the AWS Managing Director, Australia – New Zealand, from 2012 to 2015 before joining the head office team at Amazon in the USA. He began his latest assignment, based in Sydney, in January of this year.

AWS, Amazon’s secure cloud services platform, is used by more than a million customers and is a US$22 billion business. Remarkably, it is growing by nearly 50% year-over-year.

Ed was in Auckland to meet with some of the local AWS partners (Stellar is one) and was accompanied by Tim Dacombe-Bird (AWS Manager, New Zealand) and Brent Colbert (AWS Partner Manager, New Zealand).

Ed took the opportunity to reinforce AWS’s strategy to help businesses reduce technical debt and drive innovation.

Advances in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are the hot topics he sees developing in data analytics.
